When retired nurse Amy Quesinberry went to bed on When retired nurse Amy Quesinberry went to bed on a Friday night, she felt completely normal. By Saturday morning, her right hand was numb, her fine motor skills were gone, and she knew she needed help.

Amy had experienced a "wake-up stroke." Thanks to her quick instincts and the rapid stroke response team at Northern Regional Hospital, she received immediate, life-saving evaluation and care. From the emergency room to the NRH Stroke Bridge Program that supported her recovery after discharge, Amy experienced firsthand why trusted care close to home matters most.

"Northern Regional Hospital has the best stroke response team I have ever seen," Amy shares. Today, she is back to the moments that matter most, spending time with her great-grandkids.

Amy’s message to you? "Educate yourself on the symptoms of a stroke. It could save your life."

Stroke recovery is an ongoing process. That's why Stroke recovery is an ongoing process. That's why at Northern, we offer a Stroke Bridge Program for all post-discharge stroke patients, regardless of their PCP.

This program guarantees a post-discharge evaluation, including a thorough neurological exam, medication review, assessment of community support resources, and coordination of care/appointments with specialists, if needed. This visit is a time for patients to ask any questions that may have arisen after they returned home, and it helps to provide the resources they need for recovery.

Patients in this program are also offered a 30-day trial membership at ProHealth24 to enable them to remain active in their recovery, further reducing their risk of recurrent stroke.

Ashley M. Bryant, MSN, FNP-C, is one of our Stroke Bridge Program providers. Stroke recovery may seem overwhelming, but she is dedicated to finding the path to healing that works best for you. "I focus on treating the whole patient, including listening and validating how difficult recovery can be; screening for anxiety and depression, which are very common after stroke; encouraging family involvement; and connecting patients with therapy and community resources," said Bryant.

Northern Regional Hospital is proud to recognize 2 Northern Regional Hospital is proud to recognize 20 students for their achievements through our Surry-Yadkin Works Apprenticeship program.

Fourteen students committed to apprenticeships at NRH (four students committed to part-time work over the summer, while ten committed to full apprenticeships), and six students graduated from the program, earning their journey worker certificates.

"We need healthcare workers who lead with heart, think critically, advocate fiercely, and care deeply. If you are choosing this path, it is because something within you already carries those qualities," said Robin H. Hodgin, Interim President and CEO at Northern Regional Hospital, when addressing the group. "A career in healthcare is a commitment to making a tangible difference. It offers purpose, lifelong learning, diverse opportunities, and the ability to work anywhere. But more than that, it offers the chance to touch lives in ways that stay with people forever."

Thank you to Surry-Yadkin Works and Surry Community College for making this program possible, and congratulations to this group of students and future healthcare professionals on your achievements!
