Our digestive specialist, Dr. Tom Orli, cares for all of your gastrointestinal concerns, treating both routine and more complex issues.

With specialized care in disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, including the stomach and intestines, we care for everything from acute stomachaches that may require short-term treatment to longer term care of chronic conditions.

Our team of physicians and nurses carefully monitors your GI condition and works with you for short-term solutions or longer-term disease management. We understand that digestive conditions can interfere with daily living and we work with each patient to determine the treatment plan that improves quality of life.

With expertise in a range of gastrointestinal issues, our GI specialists care for disorders and conditions of the GI tract including:

  • Colorectal cancer screening
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • Gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Heartburn
  • Hepatitis
  • Irritable Bowel
  • Swallow Problems
  • Ulcers

We offer a range of endoscopic diagnostic and therapeutic services. These include Upper Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Capsule Endoscopy, and Liver Biopsy.

Upper Endoscopy

An Upper Endoscopy is performed to evaluate and treat the following conditions:

  • Long term effects of acid reflux (heartburn)
  • Strictures of the esophagus requiring dilation
  • Prevention of esophageal cancers through directed esophagus screening
  • Ulcer Disease
  • Chronic Nausea and Vomiting
  • Stomach Cancer
  • Unexplained Anemia
  • Celiac Disease
  • Chronic Upper Abdominal Pain
  • Placement of Permanent Feeding Tubes

Colonoscopy

A Colonoscopy is used to evaluate and treat the following conditions:

  • Rectal Bleeding
  • Prevention of Colon Cancer by detecting and removing pre-cancerous polyps
  • Chronic Diarrhea
  • Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Colitis
  • Unexplained Anemia
  • Chronic Lower Abdominal Pain
  • Screening Colonoscopy

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States in both men and women combined. A colon screening provides early detection and removal of polyps (growths) in the colon that might become cancer.

It is recommended that most people begin having colon cancer screenings at the age of 50. Screening may begin at a younger age for those with increased risk, such as strong family history of colon cancer, people with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. You may be eligible for a Direct Access Screening Colonoscopy offered by Dr. Mark Appler at Northern Regional Hospital.

What is a Capsule Endoscopy?

A Capsule Endoscopy is a procedure that uses a tiny wireless camera to take pictures of your digestive tract. The camera sits inside a vitamin-sized capsule that you swallow. The capsule travels through your digestive tract, taking thousands of pictures that are transmitted to a recorder you wear on a belt around your waist. A capsule endoscopy is used to evaluate unexplained anemia or abnormal x-rays that suggest small intestine disease.
