Heart patients can now see the same physician at both the clinic and hospital.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Novant Health and Northern Regional Hospital, located in Mount Airy, recently welcomed Dr. Jordan Tannenbaum, a new full-time cardiologist to enhance the continuity of cardiovascular care in and around Surry County. Tannenbaum has embraced a more traditional, hands-on approach to care by delivering expert consulting care for his patients at Northern Regional Hospital and by providing follow-up appointments at his nearby outpatient clinic, Novant Health Cardiology – Mount Airy.
“I’m committed to building familiarity and trust with my patients,” said Tannenbaum. “You never hear about someone’s doctor visiting them in the hospital anymore, it just doesn’t happen. In most places we now have a doctor that will see you in the clinic, and a different heart doctor that will see and provide specialty support for you in the hospital. While this works well in most cases, we’re excited to go back to a more traditional and personal approach here in Surry County. I want our patients to know that our team is committed to building real relationships with them throughout their entire care journey.”
Cardiovascular services have long been provided at Northern Regional Hospital and those services have grown through a partnership with Novant Health. While the health care systems have collaborated on patient care for years, they decided to expand their partnership by having Novant Health cardiologists provide daily heart care coverage for patients at Northern Regional Hospital in 2022. This has allowed countless patients who live in northwest North Carolina and southwest Virginia to stay at Northern Regional Hospital, without having to transfer to a larger tertiary medical center.
“Novant Health is committed to helping our patients stay close to home for their care,” said Dr. Jason Edsall, chief medical officer at Northern Regional Hospital. “We’re proud to celebrate our continued partnership and to welcome Dr. Tannenbaum to the community. Ultimately, his presence will lead to better communication with our patients, improved outcomes and fewer hospital readmissions down the road.”
Novant Health will continue to work collaboratively with Northern Cardiology, a department of Northern Regional Hospital, to provide complementary care services for their shared patients.
