Northern Regional Hospital is pleased to welcome John P Cuellar, MD, to Northern OBGYN, bringing more than 30 years of experience in women’s healthcare and obstetrics to the region.
Originally from San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Cuellar earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University before receiving his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas. He completed his residency training in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Texas, St. Joseph Hospital, Houston.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists, and maintains continuous certification from The American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Dr. Cuellar has extensive experience caring for women through every stage of life. His professional interests include high-risk obstetrics and minimally invasive surgical procedures.
He spent more than three decades practicing in western North Carolina, including leadership roles at Mission Hospital in Asheville, Advent Health Hospital in Hendersonville, and in solo practice at Asheville Obstetrics & Gynecology, as president and owner.
“Over my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work in hospitals across several states, and Northern Regional stood out immediately,” said Dr. Cuellar. “The atmosphere here, the labor and delivery team, and the level of experience throughout the hospital made it feel like the perfect fit. I’ve met wonderful people, and I’m excited to become part of this community.”
Dr. Cuellar describes his philosophy of care simply: “I take care of patients the same way I would take care of my own family.”
Outside of medicine, Dr. Cuellar and his wife, Wendy, enjoy hiking, cycling, and spending time outdoors. They also enjoy driving in the country and reading.
Northern OBGYN provides comprehensive women’s healthcare services, including routine gynecologic care, prenatal care, labor and delivery services, minimally invasive surgery, and menopause management.
