UKG is our One-Stop-Shop for Timekeeping, Payroll, and Human Resources

Assistance for Common HR, Payroll, and Timekeeping Tasks

Accessing UKG
  1. Log into UKG using the desktop icon on your work PC.
  2. If off-site, go to the NRH website www.choosenorthern.org, access the Employee Login page, and click on the UKG icon.
UKG Username and Password

Current Employees:

  1. Your username for UKG will be your NRH email address (ex: jdoe@wearenorthern.org).
  2. Your passwords for UKG will be your 20+ character network password (the same as your email password).

Previous Employees: Use this link

  1. Your username for UKG will be first name, initial of last name, and last four digits of social security number (ex: JOHND#### for John Doe)
  2. If you do not know your UKG password, choose forgot password to reset your password.  You will receive a confirmation email after resetting.  If your personal email address has changed, please contact us by email hrhelp@wearenorthern.org.

*Locked accounts will automatically unlock after 30 minutes.

UKG Employee Self-Service

Viewing Your Timecard
  1. On the main UKG landing page, click the right arrow on the My Timecard tile. 
  2. The calendar option will allow you to select the pay period or date(s) you want to view. 
Viewing Your PTO Accrual
  1. From the timecard view (see steps above), select the tab for Accruals (bottom left). 
  2. Your current PTO accrual is listed in the Available Balance column.
Requesting Time Off
  1. On the main UKG landing page, locate the My Time Off tile.
  2. Click Advanced Options. 
  3. Select the type of time off.
  4. Click Apply. 
  5. For one day only:
    • Select the date.
    • Click Apply. 
    • Enter your Start Time.
    • Adjust AM/PM as needed.
    • Enter PTO hours being requested for the day (ex: 08:00 for 8 hours). 
    • Click Review.
    • Submit
  6. For multiple dates:
    • Select the start date.
    • Using the mouse, click and drag to highlight to the end date.
    • Enter PTO hours being requested per day (ex: 08:00 for 8 hours). 
    • Click Review.
    • Submit.
    • *Please note, only one week at a time should be submitted as a single request. 
Viewing and/or Deleting Your Time Off Request
  1. On the main UKG landing page, locate the My Notifications tile. 
  2. Click My Requests. 
  3. Use the drop-down filter to select All Status. 
  4. Timeframe filter can be set to None. 
  5. Locate and select date. 
  6. Click Delete (top right).
Viewing Pay Statements and W-2s
  1. On the main UKG landing page, locate the My Pay tile. 
  2. Choose to view pay stubs or to view your W-2.
  3. Choose Forms from the Pay History screen.
Updating Your Direct Deposit Information
  1. From the main UKG landing page, open the Main Menu (three lines, top left).
  2. Expand the My Information section and select My HR.
  3. Select the tab for HR Actions (top left).
  4. Locate Direct Deposit Change_Self Service.
  5. Review the instructions provided.
  6. Click Start. (The instructions will remain visible at the top of the page.)
Updating Your Tax Withholdings (W-4 and NC-4)
  1. From the main UKG landing page, open the Main Menu (three lines, top left).
  2. Expand the My Information section and select My HR.
  3. Select the tab for Forms (blue menu bar at the top).
  4. Select the tab for Government Forms (top left).
  5. Expand menu for Withholding.
  6. Click the Add New button (top right).
  7. Select + Add for either the W-4 or NC-4.  VA-4 is not an option at NRH, regardless of state of residence.
  8. Review the instructions provided.
  9. Save/Submit when completed.
Updating Your Personal Information (Email, Phone, Home Address, Emergency Contacts)
  1. From the main UKG landing page, open the Main Menu (three lines, top left).
  2. Expand the My Information section and select My HR.
  3. Select the tab for HR Actions (top left).
  4. Locate Employee Data Update_Self Service.
  5. Review the instructions provided.
  6. Click Start. (The instructions will remain visible at the top of the page.)
Name Change
  1. From the main UKG landing page, open the Main Menu (three lines, top left).
  2. Expand the My Information section and select My HR.
  3. Select the tab for HR Actions (top left).
  4. Locate Name Change Request_Self Service.
  5. Review the instructions provided.
  6. Click Start. (The instructions will remain visible at the top of the page.)
Donating Paid Time Off (PTO)
  1. From the main UKG landing page, open the Main Menu (three lines, top left).
  2. Expand the My Information section and select My HR.
  3. Select the tab for HR Actions (top left).
  4. Locate Donate PTO_Self Service.
  5. Review the instructions provided.
  6. Click Start. (The instructions will remain visible at the top of the page.)
Applying for an Open Job
  1. From the main UKG landing page, open the Main Menu (three lines, top left). 
  2. Expand the My Information section and select My Career. 
  3. Using search functionality, select the job posting. 
  4. Click Apply for Job. 
  5. Complete the questionnaire and upload your current resume. 
  6. Submit.
Punching In and Out Online
  1. On the main UKG landing page, locate the Punch tile. 
  2. Click the Punch button.
  3. Your last punch time will be updated.

Benefits

How to Enroll in Non-Medical Benefits During Eligibility Periods
  1. From the main UKG landing page, open the Main Menu (three lines, top left). 
  2. Expand the My Information section and select My Benefits.
  3. Click Get started for Open Enrollment, New hires, or Life change event, whichever is applicable.
  4. Click Date of Event and Type of Event, if applicable.
  5. Review Instructions and Supporting Information.
  6. Proceed through each Benefit Plan Option to Select or Waive coverage.
    • If choosing plans with dependents, you are required to add the dependent information to proceed.
    • If choosing life plans, you are required to add a beneficiary(ies).
    • If choosing life plans for you or your dependents, an Evidence of Insurability may be required for carrier approval.
    • Click DETAILS at each benefit plan to review additional information and details.
  7. Click Confirm and Submit to review your benefit selections.
  8. Click .pdf to print a Confirmation Statement of your benefit elections.
Viewing Non-Medical Benefits
  1. From the main UKG landing page, open the Main Menu (three lines, top left).
  2. Expand the My Information section and select My Benefits.
  3. Select the tab for Benefit Plans (top left).
  4. Use the drop down menu to view Current, Past, or Future benefits.
Viewing Medical Benefits with the State Health Plan
  1. Information on your medical benefit enrollment is not available in UKG.  You must access and log into the State Health Plan’s website: Login – North Carolina State Health Plan
  2. Your username for the State Health Plan will be your first name, first initial of your last name, and the last four digits of your social security number (no dashes and no spaces).  (ex: JOHND#### for John Doe)
  3. If you do not know your State Health Plan password, choose Forgot password? to reset your password.  You will receive a confirmation email after resetting.  If your personal email address has changed, please see contact us by email hrhelp@wearenorthern.org.
  4. Choose between the options to view current benefits, view past benefits, or to print your benefits.

UKG Manager Self Service

Viewing and Editing Your Employee’s Timecard
  1. Open the Main Menu (three lines, top left). 
  2. Expand the Time section and select Employee Summary. 
  3. Use the filter options to select the employee(s) that you would like to view.
  4. Click Open Selected. 
  5. If edits are needed, make updates and click Save.
Managing Notifications
  1. When automated email notifications alert you to UKG requests requiring your attention:
  2. Login to UKG.
  3. Open the Control Center by clicking the bell (top right corner). 
  4. Select a specific notification or click View All.
Time Off Requests

Time off requests will be categorized in the Control Center under Employee Requests.  Approve or Reject as needed.

HCM Notifications

Copies of the email notifications will be categorized in the Control Center under HCM Notifications.  Click Mark Done or Delete.

HCM To-Do

HR Actions that need your review will be categorized in the Control Center under HCM To Do.  Details and notes on the HR Action can be accessed in the right menu pane.  Click Approve, Modify or Reject, whichever is applicable.

Submitting HR Action Requests
  1. Open the Main Menu (three lines, top left). 
  2. Expand the HR section and select HR Actions. 
  3. From the Available tab, scroll to find and select the needed HR Action:
    • Compensation Change with or without a Status Change
    • New Hire Request
    • Rehire
    • Status Change Only
    • Termination/Retirement
    • Transfer/Promotion
  4. Review the reminders and tips provided for the HR Action. 
  5. Click Start. 
  6. Select the employee, effective date, and click Continue. 
  7. Complete the form.
  8. Add any information that will be helpful to the HR team by clicking the Comment icon. 
  9. Click Submit.

Recruitment

Submitting a Job Requisition HR Action Request
  1. Open the Main Menu (three lines, top left). 
  2. Expand the My Information section.
  3. Select My HR. 
  4. Select the HR Actions tab (blue header). 
  5. From the Available tab, find Job Replacement Request (to backfill a position) or New Position Request. 
  6. Click Start. 
  7. Complete the form.
  8. Add any information that will be helpful to the HR team by clicking the Comment icon. 
  9. Click Submit.
Viewing Job Requisitions
  1. Open the Main Menu (three lines, top left). 
  2. Expand the Recruitment section.
  3. Select Job Requisitions.
Viewing Candidates for a Specific Job Requisition
  1. From the Job Requisition report view (see steps above), click View Job Requisition (pencil icon). 
  2. Access the Applications tab or use the New Applications or Total Applications hyperlink in the header section. 
  3. Select applicant(s) and use Quick Actions menu to View.
Viewing All Candidates
  1. Open the Main Menu (three lines, top left). 
  2. Expand the Recruitment section.
  3. Select Candidates.

Visitor Restrictions Update: Effective February 10, 2026

Due to community transmission of influenza and COVID-19, Northern Regional Hospital is strongly encouraging masks for all visitors.

Visitors should postpone their visit if they have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, a cough, sore throat, and/or a fever of 100 degrees or higher. Visitors should be free of symptoms and fever for at least 24 hours. If visitors are actively coughing but have no other symptoms, they should be offered a mask.
