Junior Volunteer Application

We invite local high school students to embark on a transformative journey with our Junior Volunteer Program and make a meaningful impact in the world of medicine! This unique opportunity is designed for enthusiastic students eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic healthcare setting. By volunteering, students not only enhance their understanding of medical practices, but also develop invaluable skills while working alongside dedicated professionals. They have the opportunity to explore the diverse facets of healthcare, contribute to patient care, and build a strong foundation for their future career.

This summer program runs for 6 weeks each year. Applications become available in mid-January and remain open until the end of March. Please note that the program is highly competitive, and not all applicants will be accepted. Students are selected based on a variety of factors.

Student Testimonial

“I learned a lot about communication, teamwork, and overall, just how to make your patients comfortable. I made a lot of friends including other volunteers, staff, and residents from the skilled nursing department. I am very glad I chose to spend part of my summer with Northern Regional Hospital. I had so much fun.”

Student Testimonial

“I had an amazing summer. It was a great opportunity to be able to see the different departments that I liked and didn’t like. I am very grateful that I got to be a part of this and that I met new people in and out of the hospital.”

Student Testimonial

“It is one of the best programs! This was my first year doing the junior volunteer program and it was amazing. I truly loved it more than I ever thought I would!! This program has made me realize my passion for nursing and that it is for sure the field I want to go into! Being able to actually go into the different departments and being able to learn something new about each department that I was able to go into really opened my eyes to what each department goes through each day! I can’t wait to do it again next year!”

Student Testimonial

“This summer, I loved volunteering at the hospital and working in different departments. My favorite area was the family medicine clinic, where I learned a lot about patient care. I also enjoyed spending time in skilled nursing, the Emergency Department, and the Operating Room. These experiences helped me improve my communication skills and deepened my love for my community. I also made connections with potential future employers and coworkers. None of this would have been possible without the involvement and support of Tina Beasley and Dan. Their guidance and help made this summer an incredible experience and have made me even more excited to pursue a career in family medicine.”

Student Testimonial

“Being a junior volunteer at Northern Regional Hospital this summer truly has been the biggest blessing! I will never forget sitting in orientation hearing all the statistics about why this hospital is the best, and then going through the hospital on my first day and understanding exactly what every employee was talking about. To have had the opportunity to volunteer in a place where every single employee is more than willing to take the time to teach you and allow you to feel helpful and needed is incredible. Not only have I been exposed to such an incredible community, I have also found the career path I wish to one day pursue, friends that will last a lifetime, mentors who I appreciate more than they know, and knowledge that surpasses anything a textbook could have ever taught me. To think that at 14 years old I had the ability to make even the smallest impact on someone’s life during such a vulnerable time is so heartwarming.  This experience has been abundantly humbling, and something I will forever cherish.”

Student Testimonial

“The junior volunteer program has been very beneficial in helping me decide which career path I want to take. From getting to see the smiles on residents faces when I walked in the room to seeing the process of labor & delivery on OB, this experience is one I am very grateful for. It has confirmed my interest in labor & delivery and helped me realize that certain areas of the hospital are not exactly how they seem. I have learned to be much more social and developed strong leadership skills this summer and last summer. I’m very grateful for the relationships I developed with the staff and patients, especially on the skilled nursing unit, during my time as a volunteer. I’m very thankful for this experience and the community at Northern Regional Hospital.”

Student Testimonial

“This summer truly meant a whole lot to me. In fact, it was probably one of the best summers I have ever had. I really appreciate all the work you put into this program and making it run smoothly. I know a lot of time and work went into this. Also, one thing I noticed this summer was yes, I was helping the hospital, but the hospital was also really helping me. At the beginning of the summer, I had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up. Now I do. At the beginning of the summer, I didn’t know too much about hospitals and how they functioned and what all goes on day to day. Now I do. I have learned so much in these past few weeks, and I am grateful for this amazing opportunity. I will always remember this summer and the memories from working here. Another thing I noticed was no matter what department I was in, the staff were wonderful, and it was great getting to work with them.”

Our Junior Volunteers graciously commit their time and effort to serve our hospital and patients by helping the professional staff provide quality care. A Junior Volunteer’s commitment is important to the individuals they serve and to the community as a whole.  While donating your time and efforts to our hospital, you will have the opportunity to see firsthand how a hospital operates.  Hospital volunteer work also offers career exploration and learning opportunities.  The skills that junior volunteers acquire through hospital work can be beneficial in future careers or educational endeavors.
