When you undergo a consultation with a Northern Medical Weight Loss physician, Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) hormone may be prescribed as part of your personalized weight loss program.
HCG is a substance which occurs naturally in pregnant women which has the effect of releasing abnormal fat. In the 1950’s late British physician Dr. A. T. W. Simeons theorized that overweight women actually lost weight when they were pregnant. Dr. Simeons devoted years of research to the treatment of obesity by administering HCG.
Dr. Simeons noticed several important factors of his study, including the lack of symptoms one would expect from a patient on a very low calorie diet. For example, his patients had no headaches, hunger pains, weakness, or irritability as long as the low calorie diet was combined with HCG.
*According to the FDA, HCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. There is no substantial evidence that it increases weight loss beyond that resulting from caloric restriction, that it causes a more attractive or “normal” distribution of fat, or that it decreases the hunger and discomfort associated with calorie-restricted diets.
